Replace a Siemens 4V1 biopsy guide when it no longer locks firmly onto the probe, when the needle channel is worn enough to let the needle drift off the on-screen guideline, or when corrosion or deformation appears after repeated sterilisation cycles. The Siemens 4V1 biopsy guide is a reusable needle guide bracket machined from medical-grade stainless steel. Replacement Indicators You Can Verify by Inspection

  • Loose fit on the probe. If the bracket rocks or shifts on the 4V1 housing after the clamp is closed, the needle path no longer matches the on-screen guideline. This is the single most common reason to retire a guide.
  • Worn or scored needle channel. Repeated passes of 14–18G needles gradually widen the channel. Visible scoring, or perceptible side-to-side needle play in the channel, means targeting accuracy is degrading.
  • Corrosion or pitting. Stainless steel tolerates autoclaving well, but aggressive chemistry or skipped rinse steps eventually cause pitting. Pitted surfaces are harder to clean reliably and the guide should be withdrawn.
  • Bent or sprung clamp arms. Drops and rough handling deform the clamp geometry. A guide that needs force to seat, or that seats at a visible tilt, has been sprung and will not hold the intended angle.
  • Needle deviating from the guideline. If needles consistently appear off the projected line during procedures despite correct system presets, suspect the bracket before the software.

Facilities running regular biopsy lists typically add these checks to the same inspection cycle used for probes and cables. Any single failed check justifies replacement: against the cost of a repeated or inaccurate biopsy, a reusable guide is an inexpensive component.
