Compatible Hitachi EUB-5500 probes come from three sources: used OEM transducers on the secondary market, tested compatible EUP-series probes from an independent supplier such as Akicare, or repair of your existing probe when the fault is localized. The EUB-5500 is a discontinued platform, so new OEM stock is effectively gone; a compatible unit typically costs 40-70% less than historical OEM pricing, and a repair runs 30-60% of replacement cost with a 5-10 business day turnaround.
The EUB-5500 Platform
The Hitachi EUB-5500 is a cart-based diagnostic console with color flow mapping and Doppler, able to drive linear, convex, phased array, and endocavity transducers through Hitachi’s EUP-series connector interface. That interface is shared across the EUB generation of consoles, which is why the probe family remains supportable today even though the host system is long out of production.
Hitachi shipped revisions within the EUB line, so treat every purchase as a fit-verification exercise: photograph your current probe label, record the console model and software version, and require written confirmation of compatibility before paying. We perform that check on every order at no charge.
Compatible EUP-Series Transducers for the EUB-5500
| Probe model | Type | Frequency class | Primary clinical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| EUP-C514 | Convex | Low-MHz abdominal band | Abdominal, general imaging |
| EUP-C532 | Convex | Low-MHz abdominal band | Abdominal, OB |
| EUP-C715 | Convex | Mid-band convex | OB/GYN, abdominal |
| EUP-L53 | Linear | High-frequency linear band | Small parts, vascular |
| EUP-L54M | Linear | High-frequency linear band | Small parts, MSK |
| EUP-V53W | Endocavity | Endocavity band | Transvaginal OB/GYN |
| EUP-S50 | Phased array | Cardiac low-MHz band | Adult cardiac |
Full frequency ranges and connector details are on each product page. The EUP catalog covers many more models than this shortlist; if your probe label shows a different model, send the photo and we will confirm whether it can be supplied or repaired.
Sourcing When the OEM Has Moved On
Hitachi’s ultrasound business has passed through consolidation and the EUB-5500 no longer receives OEM parts support. Practical sourcing therefore reduces to three routes:
| Option | Typical cost | Lead time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Used OEM probe, secondary market | Varies; sold as-is in many cases | Depends on seller | Buyers with in-house test capability |
| Compatible probe (Akicare) | 40-70% below OEM list | In-stock units ship promptly | Replacing a failed probe on a fixed budget |
| Repair of your existing probe | 30-60% of replacement cost | 5-10 business days | Lens, cable, housing, or limited element faults |
Our compatible units are engineered and tested for the EUP interface. They are not manufactured by Hitachi and are never sold as OEM parts — what you are paying for is verified function at a substantially lower price.
What “Tested” Means: Element-by-Element Reports
Every compatible probe we ship and every repair we return carries an element-by-element acoustic test report. Each array element is measured individually for sensitivity, so dead or weak elements are documented as numbers rather than judged by eye from a phantom scan. The report defines the as-delivered condition of the probe, which means any later warranty question is settled against recorded data, and your biomedical team gains a baseline for periodic re-testing.
Repair or Replace
- Repair makes sense for lens wear or delamination, cable cuts or intermittents, cracked housings, and a small number of dead elements — typically 30-60% of the cost of a replacement unit.
- Replace when there is widespread element failure, liquid ingress into the array, or damage left by a previous failed repair. A compatible unit is usually the more economical choice at that point.
An evaluation with element testing settles the question objectively. If the report shows a handful of weak elements at the array edge, repair recovers the probe for a fraction of replacement cost; if dropout is widespread, the same report justifies the replacement to your finance department without argument.
