Buying a biopsy guide for the SonoScape 12L-B comes down to three confirmations: the bracket must be machined for the 12L-B housing specifically, it must accept your needle gauges, and your ultrasound system must display the biopsy guideline for this probe. Akicare lists a dedicated reusable guide for the 12L-B — model JSM-275, medical-grade stainless steel, three selectable needle angles, 11–23G needle range. Everything else — supplier, price, delivery — follows from getting the fitment right.

What the 12L-B Guide Is Used For

The 12L-B is a high-frequency linear transducer used for small-parts and superficial imaging on Sonoscape systems. Paired with a needle guide, it supports thyroid fine-needle aspiration, breast core biopsy, lymph node sampling, and vascular access — procedures where the target sits a few centimetres under the skin and the needle must stay in a thin imaging plane. The guide holds the needle at the angle encoded in the system’s biopsy software, so the projected guideline on screen matches the physical needle path.

Typical specification of a reusable guide

Item Specification
Type Reusable needle guide bracket
Material Medical-grade stainless steel
Guide model Akicare JSM-275
Needle angle positions Three selectable angles
Needle gauge 11–23G
Compatible probe SonoScape 12L-B (bracket is model-specific)
Sterilisation Steam autoclave or high-level disinfection per facility protocol

Reusable vs. Disposable Needle Guides

Both formats position the needle along a predefined path shown as an on-screen guideline. The practical differences are cost structure and reprocessing workload.

Factor Reusable stainless steel guide Disposable guide
Material Medical-grade stainless steel Plastic, usually with a single-use needle insert
Supplied condition Non-sterile; sterilised on site before each use Sterile, individually packed
Reprocessing Cleaning followed by steam autoclaving or high-level disinfection, per your facility protocol None; discarded after one procedure
Service life Repeated sterilisation cycles over years of use One procedure
Cost per procedure Low after initial purchase Recurring cost on every case
Best suited to Departments with steady biopsy volume and an established sterilisation workflow Sites without reprocessing capacity, or occasional use

In both cases the probe itself is covered with a sterile sheath during the procedure; the guide clamps over the sheathed probe and holds the needle at the angle encoded in the ultrasound system’s biopsy software.

What to Check Before Ordering

  • Exact probe model. Needle guide brackets are machined to the housing of a specific transducer. A guide for a similar-looking Sonoscape probe will not necessarily lock onto the 12L-B; confirm the model printed on the probe body, not just the system name.
  • Needle gauge range. Verify that the guide accepts the needle sizes your protocols use. The Akicare guide for the 12L-B accepts 11–23G needles.
  • Guideline software. The ultrasound system must display the biopsy guideline for this probe. Check that the biopsy function is enabled in the system presets before the first case.
  • Sterilisation method. Match the guide type (reusable vs. disposable) to the reprocessing capacity of your department.
  • Documentation. Ask the supplier for material and inspection documentation for your procurement records.

12L-A and 12L-B are different housings

A frequent ordering mistake with this probe family: the catalogue also lists a guide for the SonoScape 12L-A, and the two probe names differ by one letter — but they take different brackets (JSM-216 for the 12L-A, JSM-275 for the 12L-B). Bracket compatibility is determined by the probe housing, not the array specification, so order against the model printed on your probe, and send us the designation if you are unsure.

Sonoscape Guides in the Akicare Range

Akicare manufactures reusable needle guides covering more than twenty Sonoscape probe models, including linear (12L-A, L741, L742, 10L-I), convex (C344, C351, C353, C612, C613), phased array (4P-A, 7P-A, S1-5) and endocavity (6V1, 6V3, 6V4, 6V7) types. The full current list is published in the Akicare reusable biopsy guide list (PDF), and all models can be browsed under the biopsy guide category or the Sonoscape-compatible product range.

All Akicare guides are compatible aftermarket products. They are not manufactured by or affiliated with Sonoscape; brand and model names are used for compatibility reference only.
